With a week to go; the bulk of packing yet to be done you are
running around like a chicken with its head cut off starting to feel a bit nervous about the enormity of the situation. Worry not ( I really should take my own advice ) for with a few tricks up your sleeve, the situation is easily managed.
1. Don’t sweat the small stuff: This time is probably the most important stage in the packing process, so it is important to keep your head on straight. Accept that things will probably not go exactly as you want them to. Things from your bedroom box will get mixed with the living room box. Necklaces will get tangled. Taking perfection off your list of moving priorities helps to take some of that weight off your shoulders.
2. Budget extra: Now that you have used up most of the tins and packets lying around in the kitchen cupboard, this is not the best time to do a complete kitchen restock. Budget for some meals out instead. This also gives you an excellent opportunity to get away from the mess that your house is in currently, and also catch up with friends you will be leaving behind (if you are moving to a different city/country).
3. Pack a suitcase: While your sanity is still relatively intact, pack a suitcase just like if you were going away on vacation. This way, when you are packing away various rooms, you won’t have to worry about boxing up something you will need in the next few days. This includes toothbrushes, phone chargers and extra clothes. You will also be using this suitcase at the other end when you are unpacking/ waiting for your boxes to arrive.
4. Get help: Not the counselling type (though you might end up needing this as well), but enlist the help of various friends/colleagues to help you pack. Order pizza (or similar) to boost the morale of the work force. Chances are a. they are sorry you are moving away and will use this chance to spend time with you or b. be glad you are moving away and are willing to help hasten the process. Either way, you get those dressers emptied into boxes.
Stay tuned for Part 4: Packing Day.
Until next time, Love, Me 🙂
